Choral

Competition 1
Unison or 2 part Primary Choirs (Taney School Cup)

  1. Competitors in this competition must be attending Primary School.
  2. No competitor may enter more than once in this competition.
  3. There is a maximum number of 60 singers per ensemble in this competition
  4. All choirs must perform ONE piece only which must not exceed 5 minutes. The adjudicator will time all competitors and any performance exceeding 5 minutes will be disqualified from prize winning.
  5. Competitors are asked to provide their own accompanist. If a festival accompanist is required an additional charge of €20 will be applied for each competition and a complete copy of the piano part must be sent to Interschools Music Festival, Wesley College, Ballinteer, Dublin 16 to finalise the booking process. Festival accompanists cannot rehearse in advance with competitors. Tapes or CDs may NOT be used as a means of accompaniment.
  6. A copy of the music must be provided for the adjudicator in ALL competitions (to be brought along on the day). Competitors’ attention is drawn to the Laws on Copyright which prohibit the unauthorised photocopying of music. The Interschools Music Festival assumes that anybody using photocopies has the permission of the publisher to do so.

Competition 2

2 Part choirs 1st – 3rd Years only (Epworth Cup)

Competitors in this competition must be attending Secondary School and within 1st, 2nd or 3rd Year, except where there is a Preparatory class within the secondary school.

No competitor may enter more than once in this competition.

All choirs must perform ONE piece only which must not exceed 5 minutes. The adjudicator will time all competitors and any performance exceeding 5 minutes will be disqualified from prize winning.

Competitors are asked to provide their own accompanist. If a festival accompanist is required an additional charge of €20 will be applied for each competition and a complete copy of the piano part must be sent to Interschools Music Festival, Wesley College, Ballinteer, Dublin 16 to finalise the booking process.   1. Competitors in this competition must be attending Secondary School.

  3. This competition must be performed without a conductor.
  4. There is a maximum number of 20 singers per ensemble in this competition.
  5. All choirs must perform ONE piece only which must not exceed 5 minutes. The adjudicator will time all competitors and any performance exceeding 5 minutes will be disqualified from prize winning.
  6. Primary School Orchestras

  1. This competition is for Primary schools only.

  3. All instruments, including piano accompaniment, must be played by students only.
  4. Primary Orchestras may perform either ONE piece or TWO short contrasting pieces not exceeding 5 minutes in total. The adjudicator will time all competitors and any performance exceeding 5 minutes will be disqualified from prize winning.
  5. Orchestral Competitions are for instruments only. Singers are not allowed.
  6. Piano Duet U15

  1. All Competitors must be attending Secondary School, but not necessarily taking music lessons in school.
  2. The age cut-off date for this competition is 1st March. U15 does not mean 15 and under. If you are already 15 on the 1st March, you are not eligible for an U15 competition and must choose the next age category up. 
  3. If competitors in the duet group are not the same age, they must enter the age category of the older competitor. i.e. if, on the 1st March, one competitor is 16 and the other is 14, the duet group must enter the O15 age group, and are not eligible for the U15 age group.
  4. All competitors must perform ONE piece only which must not exceed 5 minutes. The adjudicator will time all competitors and any performance exceeding 5 minutes will be disqualified from prize winning.

  1. All competitors must be attending Secondary School, but not necessarily taking music lessons in school.
